Rob Schoeben

As the principal of The Distillery, Rob is a strategic advisor, mentor and executive coach for tech startups and social entrepreneurs. He is uniquely adept at helping innovators develop a winning strategy and craft a compelling story to attract investment, partners, employees and market share.
His most recent full-time gig was as Chief Strategy & Marketing Officer at Carbon, a disruptive 3D printing startup in Silicon Valley, where he orchestrated the company’s dramatic emergence from stealth at TED2015. He also helped grow the company from 12 to 100 employees, transform promising technology into an impressive first product, develop an innovative business model, and achieve a $1B valuation through Series B & C financing. Prior to Carbon, Rob cofounded CASSY, a nonprofit agency that partners with over 75 Bay Area schools to support the social and emotional well-being of all students via crisis intervention, ongoing counseling, and proactive mental health education.
Rob also spent six years as a Vice President at Apple, where he directed worldwide product marketing for applications software and Internet services, working closely with Steve Jobs on product development, high-visibility launch events, and overall marketing strategy. Before his time at Apple, Rob spent eight years with Microsoft, most recently as General Manager of the TV services division. He started his career in the agency business and served as a Senior Partner at Ogilvy & Mather. Rob holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Duke University.
